Feature Article - Increase of Taxi Fares

Ever wanted to take a taxi home after a long day of work but felt that it was too expensive? Now almost everybody in Singapore are talking about the raised taxi fares. Many think that by increasing the fares, the taxi drivers would be the happiest but sad to say, it isn't true.

Since the fares increased, there was a decrease in the number of people taking taxis. Even those frequent passengers have chose to take the public transport instead as it is much cheaper. Taxi drivers aren't very happy about their loss of passengers. Most of them think that it would be more beneficial for them if the rent of the taxis decrease instead of the fares increasing while a few requested for the cost of ERP to decrease.

With the cost of petrol going up and the ERP getting more expensive, a taxi driver's cost will be very high. Others say that the increase of fares would hit their wallets. In a written reply, the second largest taxi operator, SMRT Taxi said that they will study the changes made by Comfort Delgro, and will make adjustments where necessary.
